VOP TUNES IN: Raphael Saadiq

Source: www.raphaelsaadiq.com

Raphael Saadiq's 2008 release of the 50s and 60s soul inspired album, "The Way I See", surprised many, but not me. I've been rocking to the musician's tunes from the early nineties grooves of Tony! Toni! Toné!, through the short lived but dynamic experimental R&B fusions of Lucy Pearl, until the now. With several solo projects under his belt, Saadiq has held his own as a musical innovator with a cult-like following.

His tour just kicked off in Seattle and it will bring him to the East Coast soon enough. Alas, Philly will not be on his list of visited cities. He was supposed to make a stop at the Electric Factory on December 2, but for unknown reasons, the show was canceled. No fear, he will be making appearances right around the corner in New York, Atlantic City, Washington, D.C. and Baltimore. So if you just cannot bear to miss this thoroughly vintage show your best bet is to snatch up some tickets form one of the near by venues.

Here is the new video for his single "Staying in Love".

-"Saadiq pairs cleverly wrought graphics -- think iPod ad meets Frank Miller's semi-animated film Sin City -- with the song's timeless, Motown/Funk Brothers-style guitar hook." Peter Gaston, SPIN Magazine

Cheers! Vintage On Philly
