Vintage is History: CHAKA KHAN

Yvette Marie Stevens, better known to the world as Chaka Khan was born in Chicago in 1953. In her solo debut she proclaimed "I'm every woman, its all in me"; and she had be to be the audacious female lead of the funk super group Rufus. With Rufus she had major success with hit songs like "Tell Me Something Good" and "Sweet Thing" and was dubbed the Queen of Funk Soul. As a solo artist she gained even more recognition with songs like "Through the Fire" and "Ain't Nobody." These songs impact has caused several more current musical heavies like Mary J. Blige, Whitney Houston and Kanye West to remake and sample her work. She had an undeniable powerhouse voice, but she also had a funky, sassy, sexy style that matched her intense vocals. With that crazy sexy afro and plethora of midriff revealing outfits, she became not only a superstar but a fashion icon.
